oopsie

Apologies for my lack of blogging. I've been so very busy.
I hope christmas was wonderful!
I've been reading up on companies that test on animals. This is a cause close to my heart as I am a vegetarian and I do not like to use products that have been tested on animals, as it goes against my principals.

I was shocked to find out how many ingredients come from animals. Most people think that this will not hurt the animal, but it does.
Also, just because a product says "Not Tested on Animals" on the label does not mean the ingredients weren't tested on animals. To put "not tested on animals" on a product, only the final product cannot have been tested on animals.

This is just hypocritical. I think the law needs to be changed.
I also think products should say whether they are suitable for vegetarians and vegans on them. Because that is important too.

I'd love to hear other people's opinions.

Call me a Dork, But...

So, I'm an Air Cadet. I'm not ashamed to say it. No matter how dorky it may make me sound. And here are four words that explain why: "I get to fly". Yup, I get to fly in an actual plane. In a Tutor. And it's freaking awesome!
As well as flying, I get to go shooting, to lots of big sports events and, I could get a diploma. So, all in all, being a dork pays off.

Rhodes

Sorry I haven't written in so long. I went to Rhodes with my dad and his girlfriend. It was insanely hot and dusty, but I had a really good holiday!

We went to The Acropolis in Rhodos, which was really close to our hotel. It's one of those arenas where they use to have chariot racing in ancient Greek times. There was also the ruins of a temple and an ampitheatre which they had restored.

I also went scuba diving with my dad's girlfriend, which was my 7th and 8th dive. It was amazing! We also went to a waterpark which was incredibly fun, although I did hit my head and cut my back open. And get a tad sunburnt!

It was worth it (:

Lazy Summer Days

Today, I did nothing. I had a lazy day. One of those days where you wake up really late, look at the clock and think... meh! and roll over to go back to sleep.
I haven't had one of those days in a while. And believe me, it feels great!

High School Never Ends

There are some people who breeze through life, like they're on auto-pilot. You know the type, the people who breeze through the most socially awkward situations with ease. They can laugh off forgetting people's names in business meetings, know exactly how to order a meal in a fancy restaurant and most of all: find high school easy.

I'm in high school, secondary school... whatever you want to call it. I've just chosen all my options and, as if that isn't enough, I'm going to get put in a class of people I possibly don't know!

For the past few years in secondary school, I've had my little group of friends. There's six girls and a few boys who all hang out together. We've grown to be really close, like a family, and now that we've all chosen different options... well, it's like the family is splitting up. Yeah, there are a few people I'll have English and Maths with. And some of my friends have chosen the same options as me... but then there's one friend who I probably wont have a single lesson with. I love this friend, and now... we wont be together at all. In fact, she might not be with anyone in our group. Now, that's hard to deal with...

Also, there's the usual teenage stuff: "Am I too fat?" "Am I on trend?" "Does that guy like me, too?" Blah Blah Blah. Now, this is stuff I can cope with, mostly because I choose to ignore it. I don't care about my weight. I never diet, it's just stupid. I wear what I like, not what's fashionable.  And, I don't even care about boys that much.

But, to be honest, who did find High School 100% easy? I sure as hell don't know anyone who did! So, I'm going to carry on living my life. I don't regret anything, all my bad experiences just teach me not to make the same mistakes twice!

Scott McCloud

Scott McCloud is one of my favourite artists. I love his work, and I would give anything to draw and write as well as he does. He is far too underrated.

Scott McCloud's books: "Making Comics" and "Understanding Comics" have pride of place on my book-shelf. They are forever a source of much laughter, and also incredibly useful. I am very into art, particularly cartoons, anime and some western comic books, and I thoroughly love these two books. Not only do they have gallons of information, tips and tricks, but they are hilariously written and illustrated. They have inspired many of my creations!

My father, who also has an incredible blog that you should check out, got me into Scott McCloud. Whilst staying at his, I discovered those two books nestled on one of the many book cases and decided to skim through them. Later, my dad brought me the books for myself. I know that they have helped him as well, as he is also quite the artist.

In short, thank you, Scott, for being a source of much amusement and also much inspiration in my life. You, most definitely, make the list of my top-ten favourite artists!

Bowery Blues

I am hurt
I am scared
I want to live
I want to die
I don't know
Where to turn
In the Void
And when
To cut
Out

This is an extract from "Bowery Blues" by Jack Kerouac. This poem is too long, and has way too many amazing quotes to write down in one blog. But this one stanza seems to relate to me. Because I am hurt, and scared. I do want to live, and yet I do want to die. And I never know where to turn. Who does, in life?

This poem and me, we have a lot in common.
